Capstone Project 2020

The Task:

How might we harness age-friendly design to ‘future-proof’ homes so they are sustainable, safe, and inclusive places to live and enjoy?

The brief recommends the solution to support aging-in-place from the outset. Homes should be built with the needs of all people who will live in them over their life course, not just the first buyer. We were urged to not focus on design proposals that specifically target the elderly, but on proposals that will be appealing to all. We focused on uncovering the everyday lived experience and needs of people in our chosen context. This includes social interactions and activities, personal hobbies, mealtimes, health, and down-time. We explored the driving forces of reduced health and well-being within our chosen context and analyzed the impacts of this.

Prototype

Once the idea of Wallter Green was fully realized, my team and I started to create wireframes of the application, which led to a high-fidelity prototype made with Adobe XD. Once the first version of the app was done, we conducted usability tests with a variety of users ranging in age and backgrounds.
